The start of a new academic year brings all kinds of excitement—football games, first days of class, catching up with friends after summer break, and, most importantly, the TEDxUTAustin Annual Retreat.

This fall, our returning and new team members gathered to kick off the hands-on planning for TEDxUTAustin 2025, which will take place in the spring. With new faces and shifting roles, it was crucial for our team to connect and build relationships in the best way possible: a weekend at a lake house filled with great food, fun games, and even better company. The only thing we were short on? Sleep. But we made up for it by fueling ourselves with the excitement of new friendships and the energy for the year ahead.

At TEDxUTAustin, we pride ourselves on being a student-led platform that shares fresh ideas and fosters connections across Austin. We draw on the creativity of UT Austin’s students, professors, and the wider Austin community to craft experiences that inspire positive change. Our annual retreat plays a key role in preparing us for an exciting, productive year leading up to the 2025 conference.

This year's retreat struck the perfect balance between fun, reflection, and team building. It’s one of the most anticipated events of the year, a time when we all come together to deepen our sense of community and ignite creativity. Getting away from the usual environment always brings a fresh perspective and new energy, both of which are vital as we start planning for the year.

Beyond team bonding, the retreat had plenty of memorable moments—from deep, thought-provoking conversations to lighthearted fun. There were lots of laughs during the induction ceremony, a staple in our retreat tradition, and we enjoyed meals ranging from tacos to a standout Caesar salad. We even indulged in a little luxury with a wine tasting, which has now become a must-do retreat ritual.

As we dive into the planning for TEDxUTAustin 2025, the retreat has left us more connected, energized, and ready for what’s to come. It was the perfect way to reflect, recharge, and set the stage for another spectacular year, and we can’t wait to bring our best ideas to life in the spring.
