Juneteenth: Celebrating & Supporting Black Businesses/Creators
Hey TEDxErs!
Welcome back to another blog post, and hopefully you’ve noticed that it is Juneteenth.
And what exactly is Juneteenth?
Juneteenth is the unofficial American holiday celebrated on the 19th of June, commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. It dates back to 1865, when the Emancipation Proclamation was read, declaring the ending of slavery. The name Juneteenth comes from combining the words “June” and “nineteen,” but it has also been referred to as “Juneteenth Independence Day,” “Freedom Day” or “Emancipation Day.” (More information can be found here)
In recognition of this important date, we’ve compiled a list with links to Blacks artists, Black-owned restaurants, businesses, and makeup brands that you can go and support today!
